Overnight Oats: Peanut Butter Banana, Chocolate Covered Strawberries, and Pumpkin Pie!

Hello everyone!!! Since it’s been so hot here, (ridiculous right? It’s almost October and it’s still 100 degrees here in LA!) I like to have my breakfast ready to eat and basically not have to cook in the hot kitchen! Also, I am going back to school and need something quick to grab in the morning. Instead of eating cereal or a banana I like to make overnight oats! If you don’t know what overnight oats are, they are basically a yummier cold version of oatmeal. They are healthy, simple, and quick! The cool part is they are extremely versatile so they can be eaten for breakfast, a snack, or dessert! I wanted to share some of my favorites I like to make. Enjoy! 🙂

Before making this recipe, you will need a jar! Before I went out and bought Mason Jars I kept my old spaghetti sauce jars, so if you don’t want to spend money on Masons, you can definitely take that route! Although I do recommend a jar with a larger mouth to fit your spoon in! I got mine for a good deal at Kmart and I use the quart size! You can click here for that great deal as well!

How to make them: Unfortunately, there aren’t exact measurements of how much you should put of an ingredient. The trick is layering and altering your recipe of what you like! Here is a very brief and basic breakdown of how the layering should look:

Step 1: (1-2) Cups of Oats

Step 2: Layer of fruit/filling

Step 3: 1-2 tablespoons of chia and flax (the healthy stuff)

Step 4: dashes of spices (cinnamon, pumpkin pie spice, etc)

Step 5: Another layer of Oats,  (1-2) cups

Step 6: Another layer of fruit/filling

Step 7: Pour milk until all ingredients are covered. You may want to pour a little more since oats will absorb milk quickly… but not too much, you don’t want soup!

  • Put lid on and stick it in the fridge “overnight” hence the overnight oats or for about 6-8 hours. I wouldn’t recommend any less than about 4 1/2 hours just because the oats don’t have enough time to get soft.

Don’t forget this is just the basic breakdown. Overnight oats are meant to be customized to your liking, so have fun with it! It’s a trial and error kind of deal!
